Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art launches Turn On Campaign for $4 million
Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art is pleased to officially announce the launch of the Turn On Campaign to raise $4 million. Funds raised will go towards the development of Plug In ICA’s new facility at 460 Portage Avenue as well as to support an Endowment for programs.
The Campaign was announced at the Turn On Gala organized by Plug In on Friday, April 16. The hugely successful Gala was sold out and raised over $30,000. The event featured the premiere Winnipeg screening of Guy Maddin’s short film Night Mayor.
Plug In’s environmentally friendly Silver LEED structure at 460 Portage Avenue will be a place to meet, see, create and think about new ideas through a wide range of events and opportunities. Plug In’s new, expanded exhibition and production spaces will encompass a large share of the ground floor, with research facilities and administrative offices residing on the second floor. Development plans for a third floor rooftop terrace to be used as additional programming space are also in the works.
The Turn On Campaign is chaired by Daniel Bubis of Tetrem Capital Management. Guy Maddin and Marcel Dzama will serve as Honorary Co-Chairs. Mr. Bubis stated, “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to give Plug In a permanent home in a fantastic location with a great partner, while creating an art corridor in downtown Winnipeg. When an opportunity like this comes up it needs to be seized and supported.”
460 Portage, The Buhler Centre, is being developed as a joint venture, co-owned by Plug In and the University of Winnipeg.
