One of the characteristic Edwardian buildings that make Winnipeg’s Exchange District a national heritage site, the Maltese Cross Building takes its name from its decorative frieze pattern. Clad in red brick with the main floor dressed in Tyndal stone, the building is one of the first poured concrete structures in Winnipeg making it almost completely fire proof. Its original purpose was as the Gutta Percha Rubber Company and the manufacture of rubber footwear and tires. Plug In ICA occupies the ground floor.
